Twenty-four years of quiet service.
An Lạc Hạnh — "peace and happiness" — began in 2002 with a small circle of Vietnamese families in Melbourne's north who wanted a place to practise, to be cared for, and to belong. We have been that place ever since.
Built by volunteers, held by community.
Our association was registered on 31 December 2002, founded by members of the Vietnamese-Australian community who saw neighbours struggling — elders far from home, families new to Australia, young people growing up between two cultures — and chose to respond the Buddhist way: by showing up, quietly and consistently.
We have never had paid staff. Every food hamper, every counselling visit, every retreat meal and every ceremony is the work of volunteers — aunties who cook for two hundred, students who set up chairs, elders who simply sit and listen to someone having a hard year.
Today, from our home at 80 Cyprus Street in Lalor, we serve families across Victoria: welfare support for those facing hardship, a summer retreat for youth and families each January, and weekly bilingual study circles for anyone wishing to walk the Buddhist path in daily life.

Compassion is not a feeling we talk about; it is a hamper packed, a ride to a doctor's appointment, a phone call to someone alone. Our welfare work is the Dharma with its sleeves rolled up.
Khiêm tốn — humility
We are a small association and we like it that way. No fundraising galas, no spotlight — just steady, honest service, and open books on the public charity register.
Tương thân — interbeing
Two languages, three generations, one community. We honour the elders who carried their faith across the sea, and we make room for the young people carrying it forward in their own Australian way.
